The Secret Life of Yarn
From Sheep to Sweater — Everything the Label Won’t Tell You
Your sweater grew a size in its first wash. The hat that felt kitten-soft in the store itches. Your socks wore through in a month.
In most of these stories, nobody made a mistake in the stitches. The needles were fine, the pattern was fine, the hands were fine. Something else let us down: we didn’t know what we were really holding.
This is a book about the material we knit with — the journey of yarn from the sheep, the field and the cocoon all the way to the sweater you wear for years. Your guide is Skein: the voice of every skein in the world, telling you what happens to it — shearing, dyeing, the store shelf, the needles, the bath and the first wash. Alongside it: solid, checked facts, clearly kept apart from experience.
- Four parts: Look, Choose, Make, Wear — from raw fiber, through shopping and knitting, to washing, storing and mending
- 25 at-home “Lab” experiments — the loop test, the wrist test, the felting test, the washed swatch. Each one honest about what it can’t tell you
- How to read a ball band — fiber content, yards per 100 g, dye lot and care symbols — and how to choose a substitute for the yarn in a pattern
- Wool, alpaca, cashmere, mohair, cotton, linen, silk, rayon, acrylic, nylon — how they differ in the strand, in the fabric and after washing
- Traps on the shelf — softeners that wash out, words with no definition, “bamboo” that is really rayon, price per skein instead of price per yard
- A beginner’s knitting school — casting on, knit and purl, picking up dropped stitches, lifelines — with clear line drawings
- Blocking, washing, moths and mending — duplicate stitch, woven darning, replacing a sock toe
- Fiber Atlas — 21 quick-reference cards to check at the yarn shop
- Appendices — swatch and project cards to copy, a formula cheat sheet, CYC yarn weight and needle size tables, a US/UK glossary and an index
- Every measurement in US units, with metric alongside
This isn’t an encyclopedia or another pattern collection. It’s the book after which a skein stops being just a color and a price, and buying yarn stops being a lottery. For knitters who are just starting out, and for those who have knit for years and are still surprised by what a wash does to their knitting.
Look. Choose. Make. Wear.

The Knitted Home
Modern Knitting for Your Interior
A handsome basket in a photograph and a basket that actually stands on a shelf are two different things.
Knitting is a mesh of loops that slide against one another — wonderful in a sweater, hopeless in a container. A basket is not supposed to stretch. A basket is supposed to stand. This book is about what photographs never show.
No patterns to fit, no body measurements. Things for the home have to fit objects you already own — your cushion pad, your shelf, the gap between bath and basin. So there are no fixed stitch counts: every project gives a formula you convert to your own yarn, needles and hands, followed by a worked example.
- 32 projects across six areas — living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, hallway and seasonal
- Six constructions: flat rectangle, seamed tube, knit-and-felt, joined modules, stuffed forms, ribbed tube
- Felting — knitting that stands on its own, needs no lining and never frays
- Yarn chosen for the load it carries, not for softness in the shop
- Standard measurement tables, yarn quantities by weight, blocking and repairs
- “Make and Sell” — pricing and photographing, with explicit permission to sell what you make
- An honest time count on every project — from a 90-minute dishcloth to a fortnight’s blanket
Understand the six constructions once, and you will also make things that are not in this book. Every measurement in both systems — 6–8 mm (US 10–11), 40 × 40 cm (16 × 16 in), 400 g (14 oz).
Measure. Calculate. Begin.

Your Knitting Journey
The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Knitting
Every knitter you admire once sat exactly where you are now — holding two needles that felt like chopsticks, wondering how anyone turns a ball of yarn into something beautiful.
Knitting looks complicated from the outside. It isn’t. Every knitted item in the world — from a simple dishcloth to an intricate sweater — is built from just two stitches: knit and purl. Learn those two, and everything else is a variation. This book assumes you know nothing. Not a single stitch.
Most people don’t abandon knitting because it’s hard — they give up because they bought the wrong yarn or chose a project far beyond a first attempt. That’s why this book begins before the first row.
- Getting started: exactly which needles, which yarn, which few tools — and what not to buy yet
- The fundamentals: casting on, Continental and English style, knit and purl, binding off
- Building fabric: garter, stockinette, ribbing, seed stitch, decreases and increases
- A whole chapter on fixing mistakes — dropped stitches, tinking, frogging, mystery holes
- Gauge and blocking explained simply, including the one fibre you must never steam
- Six complete projects — from a 1-hour dishcloth to a garter blanket
- Reference: glossary, abbreviations, needle conversions, yarn weight chart, notes pages
Every measurement in both systems — 5 mm (US 8), 22 cm (8½ in), 50 g (1¾ oz). Where UK and US terms differ, both are given.
Cast on. Everything else follows.

Sweter z historią. Sztuka drugiego życia włóczki
Znajdź. Rozpleć. Stwórz na nowo.
That grey sweater in the charity shop costs a few coins. Inside it hide several hundred metres of pure merino — and a story that doesn’t have to end.
Fine yarn gets more expensive every season, and the piles of worn clothing grow even faster. What if we looked at old sweaters differently — not as things to throw away, but as a mine of precious yarn? Sweter z historią is a calm, elegant step-by-step guide to the art of upcycling yarn.
- Where and how to find sweaters with a brilliant fibre content — and how to read labels, including foreign ones
- How to estimate by eye how many metres of yarn a sweater will give
- Calm techniques for unravelling, straightening and caring for reclaimed yarn
- How to join yarn without knots and organise your own “yarn library”
- Projects by time — from one evening to a weekend, with an honest hour count
- The art of visible mending, which turns a flaw into decoration
Not another pattern collection. A story about how things carry histories — and we are their next chapter.

A new novel series
What happens when people stop pretending?
A small yarn studio at 27 Hoża Street in Warsaw. Warm light, tea, the click of needles and a dog called Mokka who knows people better than they know themselves. They came for yarn. They stayed for something else.
Warm but not sentimental. To be read slowly — in the evening, with tea.
Each volume of the series can be read on its own.

Para Drutów. Miejsce, w którym ludzie zostają
Powieść o pracowni włóczki, ciepłej Warszawie i ludziach, którzy wracają sercem szybciej niż nogami.
Tosia quit her corporate job and opened a small yarn studio at 27 Hoża Street. She didn’t know yet that it would become a second home for people who had lost their way in their own lives.
Mrs Teresa — seventy-three, unable to talk about her husband since he died. Marek — a retired historian who spent forty years in his older brother’s shadow. Sara — who ran from the altar and had nowhere to go back to. Adam — a single father trying to handle everything alone. And many others who didn’t even know what they were looking for.
A novel about how a small place can save a big life. About Warsaw, which at five in the afternoon looks like midnight. About small miracles and people learning to find their way back to each other. And at the end — a letter nobody expected.
